Meanwhile, their friend Joey is gay and start remarking that another one of their friends named Casey is also gay and wants to secretly date him. Even though he continues to hate him, Chas kind of finds new respect for Ryan Dean. Ryan Dean decides to call it quits with Megan and tells Chaz the truth.
Ryan Dean friend Joey warns his friend about making an enemy of Chas and hurting Annie. After studying with Chas's girlfriend Megan, Ryan Dean starts kissing her. Ryan is in love with Annie, but he also just seems to be infatuated with all females. Here, he has t room with Chas Becker, a fellow rugby player that hates him. He has to stay in Opportunity Hall with all the troublemakers. Ryan Dean is a smart 14 year old junior attending a boarding school. In it, he speaks of his love for her and the way she lived her life. After Augustus dies, the story ends with Hazel reading Augustus' letter. Augustus wants to hear the eulogies that they will give at his funeral. Later Augustus tells her that his cancer has returned and is attacking every part of his body. Van Houten is rude and obnoxious to the teenagers. After reading An Imperial Affliction, Augustus wants to find the author so they can know what happened to the other characters. She wants to know what happened to the other characters in the book. The great draw of the book, however, is that it doesn't conclude. Hazel relates to the book's main character, Anna, in every way. They become fast friends an she tells Augustus about her favorite book, An Imperial Affliction, a story about a teenage girl with cancer. Her mother forces her to attend a cancer support group, she meets Augustus who has been in remission since the doctors amputated his leg He is attending the meeting as support for his friend Isaac, who has been told that he will soon lose another eye to cancer.
Although her disease isn't in remission, she has some time because of a new drug but she feels rather depressed and reclusive. Hazel Grace is a 17 year old dying of cancer.
